Embossing plates are photopolymer plates, which are similar to those used in flexo printing, but are harder. They are used in connection with an etched matrix cylinder. The plates (male die) are mounted exactly onto female dies on a cylinder with adhesive. One advantage is fast, inexpensive production, which is nonetheless offset by a higher time assembly expense and a relatively low lifespan depending on the motif. Particularly fine elements cannot be implemented in an embossing plate on a worthwhile basis.
