Offset plate

Producing an offset plate is simple, fast and extremely inexpensive in comparison to flexo or gravure form production. The usual printing carriers in offset printing are zinc or aluminium mono metal plates, which are increasing being replaced by bi- or tri- metal plates (copper, steel and chrome). The typical plate strength is between 0.1 to 0.5 mm. Offset plates are used for print runs of up to 100,000 copies, but can also be prepared for higher print runs through burning. The printing positions on the printing plate are ‘fat friendly’ (lipophile), and are networked by printing ink. It is said that they absorb the printing ink. In contrast, the non-printing positions are hydrophile, and are networked by a liquid film. It is said that they absorb water or moistening agent.
