RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification and is a technology for contactless identification using electromagnetic alternating fields (radio waves). The core of RFID technology is a computer chip, the RFID transponder. This tiny computer chip with an antenna is applied to different objects and contains information. The information is read with a reading device. The required electrical switch elements, e.g. on packaging, can partially be produced using precisely manufactured RFID printing forms in the printing process. The widest variety of use exists for RFID technology; in the packaging area it represents a meaningful supplement to a barcode.
