High embossing
Depending on the printed or embossed side of the material embossing either involves high embossing (the embossed surfaces are raised) and in the case of debossing it involves depth embossing (the embossed surfaces are deepened). Both types of embossing are produced using a set of two cylinder types, the female die and the male die. The female die embosses the printing substrate on the male die. During embossing the female die bears the depressions and the male die the raised embossing elements. The exact opposite happens with debossing.
