Mondi Wheatley upgrades print quality for flexibles

Mondi Wheatley, the packaging giant’s UK flexibles site, has upgraded its print operations to improve image resolution and colour density. The company said that it is now able to print at 180 lines per inch on its flexo presses at both Wheatley and its German print site Mondi Lindlar. Mondi said that the technology was based on high-definition Kodak Flexcel NX printing plates that allowed higher ink transfer and around a doubling in print resolution.
Stefan Gutheil, managing director of Mondi’s Consumer Bags division, said: “Brand owners like to take advantage of the high flexibility of flexo printing as it enables them to implement their design ideas quickly and cost-efficiently. “The compromise in quality was accepted. Now, we are able to offer our customers both – high-quality print results and the advantages of flexo print technology.”
Mondi’s Wheatley plant in Scunthorpe was expanded early last year to create 30 new jobs after a new warehouse facility was added to the site.
