Aging population in Germany influences packaging innovations

The growing demand for lightweight, protective packaging solutions in the food and personal care sectors for elder people will sustain the growth of the plastics industry in Germany, claims a study by the British market research institute Canadean.

More than half of the German population will be aged 65 or older by 2055. Consequently, the market researchers expect a growing need for easy packaging with clearer and bolder labelling. Moreover, an aging population is reported to result in more single households, for which smaller packaging solutions are ideal.

Until 2017, the study predicts an annual growth rate of 1.05% for the German packaging industry.
