Schur Flexibles to acquire Arla packaging subsidiary

Swedish-Danish cooperative Arla Foods has signed an agreement to sell its packaging subsidiary Danapak Flexibles to Austrian-based high-barrier flexible packaging supplier Schur Flexibles Group. Arla noted that it is not within its core business to produce packaging, and believes that it is no longer the right owner for Danapak. Arla Foods vice-CEO Povl Krogsgaard said that the deal is a win-win for all the parties involved in the transaction.

"Over the past several years, Arla has sold off subsidiaries that do not have a direct link to dairy production in order to focus on our core business," Krogsgaard added. The transaction is expected to be completed in July.

Denmark-based flexible packaging supplier Danapak Flexibles provides packaging services for firms in the pharma, dairy and food industries. Danish Dairy Board founded Danapak in 1955, and since then, it has been owned by several companies in various constellations. The company's headquarter and main production site are situated in Slagelse, and one additional printing facility in Horsens. Danapak's customers include companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Arla Foods and Nestlé.
