Indonesia's packaging industry is predicted to post a turnover of US$4.6 billion this year up from $4.1 billion last year. Hengky Wibawa, the executive director of the Indonesian packaging federation said the increase was attributable mainly to expansion of retail industry. Growing number of hypermarket and supermarket outlets will require larger supply of packaging, Wibawa said. Currently the country has around 550 producers of packaging, he said, adding various types of packaging including paper, plastic, aluminum foil and glass packaging have been produced locally. Food processing industry is the largest consumer accounting for around 60 per cent of the country's consumption of packaging in the country.
