Packaging firm Amcor has announced it will close its Scottish flexible packaging plant following an earlier serious fire at the site in September. The company said it was not economically viable to re-open the Livingston facility, with 77 jobs now thought to be lost. Production at the factory has been stopped since the fire. Everyone was evacuated and one person was taken to hospital for minor burns. "Following thorough investigations and reviewing all available options, Amcor concluded that is not viable to reinstate the plant," said Gérard Blatrix, vice president of snacks and confectionery, Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas. "It is with regret that we announce our intention to close AF Livingston." Amcor stated that all its plants have continuity plans in emergencies to ensure that customer supply remains uninterrupted. The firm adds that it is in consultation with the 77 employees and their representatives, and is considering them for other positions within the company.
