Tetra Pak buys Miteco

Swedish food processing and packaging solutions provider Tetra Pak has bought Miteco, a Switzerland-based production solutions provider for the beverage segment. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Miteco primarily caters to the soft drinks, fruit juices and liquid food sectors, with a strong presence in the carbonated soft drinks segment. The company operates sites in Switzerland, Italy, the UK and South America, and has a workforce of 70.

With this deal, Miteco will be able to expand its global reach through Tetra Pak's established expertise in more than 170 countries worldwide. The acquisition strengthens Tetra Pak's beverage production capabilities in key areas, including sugar handling, dissolving, refining, mixing and blending beverage ingredients.

Tetra Pak Processing Systems executive vice president Tim High said, "The acquisition of Miteco positions Tetra Pak as a world leader in production solutions for carbonated soft drinks, with an unrivalled product portfolio backed by strong technical support and broad geographic presence." Miteco sales and operations director Guillermo Fernandez said, "We are confident that becoming part of Tetra Pak will allow the Miteco business to continue to grow. "Tetra Pak's global presence, plus the combined knowledge and skills of our two companies, promise improved solutions and better services for both existing and future customers worldwide."
