Flexible packaging and labels provider Constantia Flexibles Group has purchased a new printing technology for installation at its manufacturing site in Louvain, Belgium, in a bid to boost its pharmaceutical packaging business. The firm invested in new 4 color UV flexo press, which supports customers with small- to medium-sized batches, is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2017.
Constantia Flexibles Group Pharma Division executive vice-president Pierre-Henri Bruchon said: “We are delighted that this update in technology strengthens our sustainable outlook on doing business and signals the introduction of more UV presses for Louvain in the future.”
The new technology is also expected to significantly reduce solvent emissions while helping in increasing print capacity. It also allows the firm to cater to new product areas. Constantia said that the Louvain manufacturing facility is an integral part of the Pharma Division’s satellite concept in Europe. At the facility, the firm uses pre-material from larger plants to print and slit foils and laminates for its customers. Constantia Flexibles Pharma Division operates production sites in Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, the UK and Belgium.
In February 2017, Constantia Flexibles has invested nearly €3m in printing technology at its manufacturing site in Wangen im Allgäu, Germany. An extra rotogravure unit has been added to an existing UV-Flexo printing press, for use in medium-sized batches for the dairy industry.
Constantia Flexibles is a manufacturer of flexible packaging products and labels for the food, pet food, pharmaceuticals and beverage industries. Employing more than 10,000 people, Constantia Flexibles operates 55 sites in 24 countries.
