When a new design concept is finished it is submitted for approval, which is generally done by using color-boards, samples, mock-ups, print-outs or some other type of representational material. Once the concept is approved it must then be adapted for the printing requirements of the industrial production and packaging lines.

This includes all the technical parameters such as packaging format, dye-cuts, sealing zones and numerous other criteria that must be integrated into the design concept.  For example, the design for a new food product will need to be adapted to many different packing sizes such as 150g, 250g, 500g, individual pack, multiple pack, minis etc.
